CISPA (Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act): For or Against?

15

CISPA gives a break to Internet Service Providers and private companies when it comes to sharing cyber-security threatening user data.

With CISPA, it becomes much easier and safer for companies to share private user information to the government and it protects them while they do it. They indeed become immune to lawsuits that would arise from privacy violations.

Companies today are always on a very thin ice in these cases and CISPA will hopefully resolve this.

Well the problem is that it won't be used for cybersecurity threats only. It will be used for anything. They will breach all the privacy policies and TOS that protect you.

CISPA = BIG BROTHER

Good bye 4th amendment, Good bye internet privacy.

Companies already have your "secret information" and you are ok with that. What will it change if government also have them? Something to hide?

You obviously have never read a TOS and a privacy policy. You have rights there. A company is not to use your data to snoop your life. They can target ads based on field of interest but they spy on you. If Michael Jackson used hotmail, Microsoft was not allowed to read its emails...

The government has better to do than reading all of your emails. They will just scan data to detect any form of cyber attack. Microsoft would not allowed to read its email, but the police could with a search warrant.

The reason they need a search warrant is to protect people's right by going through the legal process. This is a fundamental difference between our system and some more totalitarian system were law enforcement agencies can pretty much do what they want with your life.

That's the only reason why some giants of the internet agree with CISPA. Facebook will save a lot of money by letting the government take the responsibility of privacy violation. They were totally against SOPA and now because they will make more cash, they support CISPA.
